Dark As A Dungeon: Songs and Stories of American Coal Mining

On March 17, 2018, Bucky Halker (Company of Folk Director) appeared on Dave Hoekstra’s “Nocturnal Jouranl” on WGN Radio for a program on the stories and songs of coal mining history.   Illinois coal miners were interviewed on the show and Bucky added a few historical coal miner songs from the rich tradition of coal miners and music, including “The Death of Mother Jones.”  Jones is buried at the coal miner cemetary in Mt. Olive, IL with her “boys,” the coal miners of the region.
